…an innovative design solution within a defined budget and delivered it on time. The materials specified were of good quality and proved to be durable in use. The execution and delivery of the project was seamless.
Brief
Alongside Studio Daniel Libeskind (Concept Architect) and McCauley Daye O’Connell (local Executive Architect),
Arcology Design LTD undertook the task of designing, detailing and realizing all the Interior spaces to within the Grand Canal Development including the North and South Commercial Buildings acting as ‘bookends’ to the 2000-seater Grand Canal Theatre opening its façade to the Grand Canal via the Martha Swartz realized landscaped promenade.
Arcology were fundamentally involved in the specifications and detailing resulting in the Commercial Buildings being granted BREEAM ‘ Excellent’ status.
The Project completed in 2009 and has subsequently been awarded the 2009 winner of “Institute of Designers in Ireland Awards – Best Interior Architecture” and commended for Sustainability.
Design Solution
The central feature of the atrium within the Commercial buildings is the enormous art installation of the Letter Wall.
Rising through seven story’s it represents the ten Thunder words from Joyce’s Finnegan’s’ Wake.
The floor below mirrors the break-up of the typeset with sections of words shown as they would appear when printed.
All internal finishes and detailing complied to a speculative build budget whilst offering an extremely high-level finish and ambience.
Performance specifications were extremely high to ensure longevity and in-built flexibility/ modular solutions were sought on all fit outs to allow for limited key upgrades or changes should these be required in time
